Avoid this business. They will shut off your heat in 19 degree weather, leave you with no solution and walk away. I literally had heat when they arrived, didn't when they left, and the receptionist, when I called back after the Technicians left, just said to get space heaters. The receptionist is rude and unprofessional. I will never use them again.*Update to reply**Yes, the following day, After I Posted My Review and we had spent the night in the house with no heat, and I sent another text about it.I was sent a text about the offer to Borrow heaters. However, by that time I had already obtained a house full of heaters by necessity.Furthermore, I expressed clear understanding of your said requirements, however, before the heat was shut off I should have been advised, and, ultimately given the decision, if I, which I clearly would have, taken the full responsibility. I have detectors in every room of the house, and while I do understand the potential hazard, there is also significant hazard in not having heat. Also, before trusting the diagnosis of your technicians grainy cell phone video I think it is justified to confirm with a second opinion before the system was shut off. I guess, however, it was as the receptionist said, they were very busy and needed to get other customers heat on.Also, I didn't even ask them to turn the heat back on, I asked them to explain to me how to do so. They advised me to turn the gas back on and reinstall the fuse, which I did, however it still did not return the heat which tells me they did more to shut it off. Or maybe it was the way all of the parts of the unit were not put back on (covers) etc. I can surly add a photo of the state in which it was left if that would be helpful.The statement about being given multiple options for ways to fix it is not true. I was told that they did not know if parts were available for a unit of that age and if not I would need a new unit and that they would get me quote, which they did not.****Further update after research for homeowners ****In North Carolina, an HVAC company is legally permitted to shut off a heating system if they discover a cracked heat exchanger, as it poses a serious safety risk due to potential carbon monoxide leaks; however, they must first inform the homeowner of the issue, provide an estimate for repairs, and generally give a reasonable timeframe to arrange repairs before completely shutting off the heat.Key points about this practice in NC:Safety first:A cracked heat exchanger is considered a significant safety hazard, allowing dangerous carbon monoxide to leak into the home, so shutting off the system is often necessary to protect occupants.Notification is required:Before shutting off the heat, the HVAC company must notify the homeowner about the problem, explain the potential dangers of a cracked heat exchanger, and provide an estimate for repairs.Reasonable time to address the issue:The homeowner should be given a reasonable timeframe to arrange for repairs, allowing them to secure alternative heating options if necessary.No specific law regarding heat shut-off:While there isn't a specific NC law outlining the exact procedures for shutting off heat due to a cracked heat exchanger, the general principle of prioritizing safety and providing proper notification applies.***01/20/2025 update***I had two other companies come out to assess the unit.....There was no crack in the exchanger, since your technicians didn't remove it and actually check there was no way they could have accurately diagnosed the problem. The poor quality grainy cell phone video that caused my heat to be shut off was clearly insufficient. I have attached photos of the exchanger after it was removed. There has been a lot of money spent on space heaters, time spent coordinating other companies to assess the problem, and, my family suffering in a cold house due to the laziness and poor work quality of Thornton Heat and Air. ****See the photos attached of the exchanger with no cracks.

When our entire system stopped working, we contacted Thornton's & received incredible service & price, much quicker than anticipated. Installers arrived on time, conducted themselves professionally, & remained on site until I was completely satisfied. When an unforseen issue occurred, due to an irregularity I'm my home structure, the installers were able to fabricate what was needed, on site, & left my property in great condition. I recommend Thornton's wholeheartedly.

Our air handler stopped working early on a Thursday morning, called Thornton's, they came out and diagnosed the problem as a broken module controlling the variable-speed fan. The technician said that the replacement part would be ordered that afternoon and arrive in Friday morning.We were notified Friday at 4:30pm that the truck arrived without the part, leaving us without heat for the weekend (lows in the 20s and low 30s). Because there was no update from Thornton's Monday morning, we called James Heating and AC in Mebane. A technician arrived and did a power reset that fixed the problem in ~10 min.It's important to note that Thornton's installed the unit 2 years ago and did a great job; however, this was a deal breaker on ever using them for any level of service in the future.

My HVAC unit stopped working on the night of 1/16 and the service tech was out early this next morning. He clearly showed me the holes in the heat exchanger and I was told they needed to turn the gas off for my safety. They were prompt getting me a quote for a new unit and the unit was installed 2 days after I received the quote. The office ladies were so kind and professional as well as the installers. I would highly recommend Thornton's to anyone in need of repairing or replacing their HVAC unit as I have used this company for years!!
