Chesapeake Heating & Cooling Introduce
For homeowners in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, finding a dependable and transparent contractor for essential home systems is a priority. **Chesapeake Heating & Cooling** operates as a specialized Class A licensed contractor, focusing its business entirely on Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) services. Established in 2010 by owner Brian Overton, who started in the industry at a young age, the company is deeply rooted in the Chesapeake community and aims to provide affordable and versatile climate control solutions.
While often used interchangeably by the public, it is important to clarify that Chesapeake Heating & Cooling is not a general contractor—which handles overall building projects—but a **specialized mechanical contractor** dedicated to your heating and cooling comfort. They are fully licensed and insured, serving thousands of customers across Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk. Their foundational philosophy is built on delivering high-quality service without subcontracting work, ensuring they maintain full control over the project and communication from start to finish.
However, users seeking their services should be aware of a critical trend mentioned in public feedback, particularly concerning interactions stemming from home warranty claims. Customer reports highlight significant dissatisfaction regarding service communication, escalating out-of-pocket costs for simple repairs (like drain lines), and a perceived lack of responsiveness in follow-up calls. These accounts suggest that while the company possesses the necessary licenses and technical training, potential customers should insist on clear, upfront, and non-escalating written estimates for any work outside of routine maintenance to mitigate risks associated with unexpected charges or prolonged service timelines.

Several features distinguish Chesapeake Heating & Cooling as a local business, primarily revolving around their licensing, business structure, and warranties for new installations:
- **Class A Contracting License:** The company is fully licensed and insured, holding a Class A Contracting license in Virginia, which denotes the capability to take on larger, more complex projects.
- **Owner-Operated Structure:** Started and managed by Brian Overton, the company structure is designed to keep internal accountability high and maintain direct control over project execution.
- **No Subcontracting Guarantee:** A stated commitment that they do not subcontract work, which is intended to streamline communication and maintain control over workmanship quality—a significant selling point for many customers.
- **New Installation Warranty:** All new HVAC installations are backed by a competitive **ten-year parts and labor warranty** (excluding certain issues like indeterminable refrigerant leaks), providing long-term assurance to the homeowner.
- **Affordable Pricing Focus:** The company promotes offering quality, affordable services and very reasonable pricing on all products and service calls, often with no trip charge.
- **Versatile System Expertise:** They service and install all makes and models of HVAC and related equipment, with a preferred recommendation for the Ruud brand due to its reported reliability.

For Virginia users in the market for a new HVAC system, Chesapeake Heating & Cooling offers a compelling package, particularly for the **long-term peace of mind** provided by their **ten-year parts and labor warranty** on new installations. Their status as an owner-operated, Class A licensed contractor that commits to **not subcontracting** gives them an advantage in accountability and direct customer relations, which are often highly valued in specialized home services.
Choosing this company is most valuable for those looking for a complete system replacement or a large heating/cooling project where their Class A license and extensive warranty coverage will provide the best return on investment. The focus on affordable, upfront service is also attractive to budget-conscious homeowners. Customers who prefer to deal directly with the company that employs the technicians, rather than a chain or a company that outsources labor, will find this a key benefit.
However, due to specific, repeated public complaints regarding customer service follow-up and cost escalation, particularly when dealing with home warranty claims or complex, long-duration issues, it is paramount that users secure **all quotes and agreements in writing** before any work begins. For new, large-scale projects, this is a responsible best practice for any contractor, and doing so here will help ensure the user experience aligns with the company’s intended standards of expertise and affordability.

Chesapeake Heating & Cooling Reviews
Home warranty used this company and they are corrupt. To install a drain line they charged me out of pocket $350. I agreed to that and then over a 6 month period of no AC they increased the price three more times to over $1000 to install a PVC drain line blaming it on inflation. They never answer their phone or call you back when you leave a message. I decided to get the work done by another company who charged me $150 total. I have instructed my home warranty to not use Arctic Heating for any future service to my home.

Feb 01, 2023 · Michael YoungAppointment time was 10-2 I was in the shower at 9. Got the call that he was on the way. I scrambled to throw some clothes on and get my dogs put away. The tech showed up I asked him to give me 2 minutes to get my dog put up and he stated in a very condescending way that’s why they call ahead. After that he took one look at my ac and stated he couldn’t work on it. So I paid a 100 service fee to have some guy come to my house talk trash to me and not fix the issue. Will never use this company and will let people know how bad the service was.

Jun 05, 2023 · Jason BiederstadtMy home warranty company used them to service my ac unit. I had to pay $2600 out of pocket for modifications the home warranty did not cover. Honestly, I didn't see anything extra coming in my house to replace what I had to pay extra for. A few days later, my house temp read 77 degrees; next day 80 degrees. I called and they came out and advised they're is a leak in my lineset but don't know exactly where it is. I was frustrated because if they would've done this correctly the 1st time with diagnosing the problem, I might not have been out of $2600. Damon, the tech, said no worries. We'll submit the report and will get it corrected.A few days later I called them. I normally speak with Liz. No answer but a few minutes later I got a call from my home warranty company advising pet Artic's report, a nail/screw probably caused the leak, they denied my claim. I was furious. I told the representative they lied. Damon didn't know where it was or couldn't find it. I told the representative I had the same issue a few years ago and I had to get another company to come out and diagnose the problem. The rep authorized another company to come out. In the meantime, I called and spoke to Liz and she said she write the report and majority of the time this is what caused the problem. I told her that is incorrect because you did not provide any proof of your findings.Well, other company did say it was a leak in the lineset but the home warranty overturned their original decision and authorized the repair on April 1st. I have yet to hear back from Liz to schedule an appointment. DO NOT USE THEM!!

Apr 05, 2022 · jacqueline pettyEasily one of the most unprofessional "technicians" with only an intention to sell more products and services.Arrived in a blank white van with no company markings. Had on a t-shirt and shorts with sneakers while complaining about poison ivy when we have English ivy on our fence line. Claimed he couldn't test our system until a full chemical wash and new locking caps even though the unit is 6 months old as of when we bought the house.Don't bother wasting your time with this company.

Aug 15, 2023 · Nomadic XIIIFirst American chose them to come fix my heating issue (unit was not heating). Well the tech connected the ac unit directly to the breaker bypassing the thermostat, without letting us know, plus informed us that they will send the report to the insurance for them to order the part but if we didnt want to wait he had the part and can install it for $350, turns out, 6 days after they still havent sent the report to the insurance and refuse to come out to out the AC/heating system back to how it was, now it needs to run 24/7 without stopping unless we turn it off the breaker. I left them 3 messages and never called me back and when I called again the secretary’s response was, oh just turn off the breaker if you want it to stop. They are useless.
