What is worth choosing
For residents in Greensboro, North Carolina, and the surrounding areas, choosing an HVAC contractor requires a careful balance of considering a company's technical capabilities and its track record for customer service. Fire and Ice Heating and Cooling, as a veteran-owned small business, offers a wide range of services from basic repairs to advanced installations. The positive reviews highlight the professionalism and expertise of their technicians, such as Doyle and Sawyer, who are praised for their politeness, knowledge, and ability to offer helpful, creative solutions like a mini-split system. This type of service demonstrates a company's commitment to going beyond a simple repair and genuinely helping the customer.
However, the decision to choose this company must be made with a full understanding of all available information. The negative review provides a stark contrast, describing a very poor experience involving alleged price gouging, a faulty repair that led to a more significant problem, and a complete lack of communication after the fact. This feedback is a crucial point for consideration, as it suggests a potential inconsistency in service quality and a possible lack of accountability when issues arise. While some customers may have a very positive experience, others may encounter significant problems. For anyone seeking HVAC services in North Carolina, it is important to weigh the potential for a positive outcome against the risks highlighted in the negative review, and to proceed with a full understanding of the public feedback.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Fire and Ice price gouged us, charging us thousands for a basic repair that that others only charge hundreds for, did not fix the problem, then their technician broke our compressor with a rookie mistake, and when the boss came and saw what happened, they ghosted us.we had the most common problem, a dirty evaporator coil that was blocked. Without even inspecting the coil, they installed a new blower motor. They charged us $2100 for a $400 part and two hours labor (price gouging). They declared it 'fixed' and left without even checking if it was cooling. Because the coil was still 100% blocked, running the new motor caused the unit to push refrigerant into the compressor, instead of vapor, destroying it. Their incompetence broke the most expensive part in the system. When we called them back, they charged a second diagnostic fee (unfair). The boss came to the site, discovered his technicians mistake, and did not acknowledge they had broken our compressor through their error. Then they stopped responding to our calls and emails. All told, we ended up spending $5000 for a repair that should have been around $700, and a whole week in the August heat.
Aug 15, 2025 · Matt DuehringI noticed my AC has rose to 85 degrees in the house and panicked! I call my home warranty provider and set up an appointment. The office clerk called and asked if Monday of following week good I sad that would be fine. As the day went by the thermostat went down. Thank goodness! I wanted them to still come out and see what was going on. I got a call saying hey I have a technician that’s working Saturday would it be okay if he come by and check I said that would be wonderful. Doyle the technician came checked outside then the attic. He came down and said it’s doing what it needs to be doing but it’s going down, but it’s doing the best it can. Doyle was so professional and so polite explaining the issue. He saw we were using fans in the garage and said have yall ever thought about AC in garage? We said yes but didn’t wanna put window unit in and keep taking it out. He said how about a mini split! We’d really never heard of it and he explained the whole thing and we decided to have it installed. When I tell you Fire and Ice will be my AC Team from now on! Doyle and Sawyer were amazing techs and we appreciate the care and professionalism they showed us. Thank You Fire and Ice LLC. We recommend them 100%!!
Jul 19, 2025 · Harold LegrearI do not recommend Fire & Ice Heating & Cooling. While they were prompt and pleasant initially, their service turned into a costly and frustrating ordeal. They charged 2 separate diagnostic fees in two days and overcharged for ineffective repairs. My AC stopped cooling last weekend, I called several companies and Fire & Ice was the first to come out.Day 1: Tech looked at the system and said it was the blower motor.Day 2: Tech came back to install the blower motor, which I paid a premium to replace—only for him to leave without verifying if the unit was cooling (it wasn’t). It then ran in a red flag state for another day.Day 3: Same tech came back to troubleshoot why the unit wasn't cooling, then called the boss man to help. Boss had a look and suggested a $700 coil cleaning—with no guarantee that would fix the issue. They then charged me for another diagnostic fee. I had the coils cleaned, the AC still didn’t work. After days with no resolution and no response to my email requesting a refund for the 2nd diagnostic fee and/or a proper diagnosis before I spent anymore money, I called another company. Their tech found the real issue (a failed compressor) in 15 minutes—something Fire & Ice should have checked on the first day.Either they misdiagnosed repeatedly or knew it was the compressor and intentionally padded the bill. I’ve spent thousands on unnecessary repairs and fees—enough to have replaced the compressor outright. Now I’m stuck with a broken AC and a company that won’t respond or make it right.A higher price and friendly tech doesn’t mean quality service. Get a second opinion before trusting them with your HVAC system.
